Suspicions of 'presidential office intervention' in the air

On the 28th, the Democratic Party of Korea referred to Chunghong's alleged intervention in the issue of the US President's visit to the United States, and emphasized that "the President's office denies any involvement, but the circumstances of Chunghong's intervention in major national affairs are being revealed one after another."

The Democratic Party is calling for an investigation into Chun Gong, who is at the center of the controversy.

Previously, Chunghong has been accused of meddling in the move of the presidential residence. The president's office has vehemently denied the allegations and has pressed charges against those involved.

"According to media reports, Ms. Shin, Cheon Gong's closest confidante, conveyed the need for a meeting with President Heo ahead of President Biden's visit last year and the message that she would make a report to the president," Park Sung-jun, a spokesman for the Democratic Party, said in a written briefing.

"After receiving the message, the former head of the legal department of Jeong Jeong-rae said, 'President Biden is coming to visit, and I need to report on Cheonggong's plan beforehand, so I need to meet with Chairman Heo in advance,'" Park said.

"President Yoon Seok-yeol claimed that he had 'met a few times' and that he had 'never contacted or met with CheonGong' when his relationship with the company became an issue, but if Jung's statement is true, it means that CheonGong had been contacting him and receiving reports even after Yoon took office."

"The controversy over Cheon Gong's involvement in the presidential office's decisions is outrageous, but if he also intervened in foreign affairs, we can't help but ask whether the country's affairs are in the hands of a mastermind," he said.
Park criticized the presidential office for "avoiding an immediate answer by saying they don't know the details," adding, "It's an ambiguous answer, whether they really don't know anything or they're just crushing it."

He added, "If it's not true, they should say it's not true. If it's not true, say so in no uncertain terms." He urged them to investigate the perforations at the center of the controversy.

Amidst the ongoing suspicions about the perforation and other matters of state, police have confirmed the existence of a computer hard disk that may have contained closed-circuit television footage of the Chief of Army Staff compound.

Earlier, the Ministry of National Defense responded to Kim's request to "submit all video records of the CC TV of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Office for the two months of March and April last year," claiming that "the video is being managed by (CC TV) in accordance with the Personal Information Protection Act, the National Defense Headquarters Security Affairs and Blue House Entry and Exit Management Regulations, and the retention period is based on 30 days.

If the CCTV footage is stored on the hard disk, it could be a smoking gun to reveal the 'suspected involvement in the drilling.

The Presidential Security Service has been refusing to cooperate with requests for related materials, including closed-circuit television, since December last year, and only recently confirmed its willingness to cooperate.

"During the process of securing data with the cooperation of the presidential guard, we confirmed the existence of a computer hard disk (storing CCTV footage)," a Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency official said at a regular press conference on the 27th.

This is the first time police have confirmed the existence of a hard disk that may have stored CCTV footage of the Army Chief of Staff's official residence, where Chun-gong visited in March last year in connection with the relocation of the presidential residence, even though the footage had already been deleted.

However, further investigation is needed to determine whether the hard disk contained footage that could reveal whether Chun Gong actually visited the official residence.

"We will only be able to confirm whether there is any video (of the attack) after we obtain the hard disk and go through forensics," said an official from the Seoul Metropolitan Police Department, explaining that they are in talks with the Secret Service about how much and in what way to obtain it.

Yun Tong has already described his relationship with Chen Gong as a "mentor" and a lot of what Chen Gong said on YouTube has come true, so we should thoroughly investigate. If it turns out to be true, it is the second national security scandal.2023.02.28. 14:04
